MODAL

WHY IS MODAL A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE?

Our journey to finding the ultimate fabric for our underwear led us to MODAL, made from the cellulose fibre of beechwood pulp.

Beech trees are very special. They multiply by rejuvenation which means that the trees propagate by themselves. No artificial irrigation or planting is required and beech uses 10-20x less water than cotton for cultivation. They are a sustainable source of raw material and most importantly CO2 neutral.

When turned into fabric its soft and stretchy attributes make it perfect for comfortable underwear.

We use Modal® from the Lenzing Group. The fibre production is eco-friendly due to the award-winning closed loop manufacturing system used. This means minimal impact on the environment, economical use of energy and water, and significantly lower production plant emissions compared to many other man-made fibre operations. Almost 100% of the solvent used in production is recycled.

Modal fibres are certified as biodegradable and compostable under home or marine conditions.

CERTIFICATION

Modal® fabric carries the OEKO-TEX® 100 certification, an international standard developed in 1992 to certify that it contains no harmful substances.

It also carries the vincotte certification for compost ability thus they can fully revert back to the soil.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Modal® is extracted from wood pulp. Lenzing Group maintains a dedicated beech wood and pulp policy sourcing exclusively from non-controversial sources, working with suppliers who can validate their participation in credible forest certification programs.
